A Quick Reminder Before RebelWriMo Starts (But Also Good Any Time)

 

This reminder is in our Discord and on all our social sites, but I wanted to put it here for any who might not be connected in those places.

It reads: There is a self-care poll going in the server and in our FB group, but I thought I'd post a bit of pre-RebelWriMo info that could be considered self-care before starting a month-long writing challenge: 1. Update your writing/computing device. 2. Update any writing or plotting software you use. 3. Check to make sure you have multiple redundancies in your "backup my writing" plan. (This is good advice any time, but especially prior to a month long event.)

So, have you updated your devices and software? Do you have multiple places you can (and do) back up your writing in case of device failure?

Be sure to take care of this before we get started to help ward off potential tech glitches that might interrupt your writing time!

Okay, Sockmonkeys, the results are in!

First of all, thank you to those of you who clicked through, read the short post and then took the quick poll. I appreciate you taking time to do so on such short notice. And now, without further ado, here are the results:

The winner, with 53.3% of the vote, is RebelWriMo (the section in green). As stated in the form and the other blog post, this one can be customized to denote how much you're writing - i.e. if you're doing the traditional 50K in November you could do #RebelWriMo50K or if you're editing projects you could change it to #RebelEditMo, etc. This allows it to be used during more than November.

Second place in yellow, with 20% of the vote, was 50Kin30days. Novel-vember and NoNoWriMo tied with 13.3%. This is out of a total of 15 votes.

As I thought, new choices couldn't be added, but a few people did list some other potential choices, so I'll list those here: Novelvember; FirstDraftFall; rainydaymo; PNWwrimo; Gritcitywrimo; gallopinggertiwrimo; nytbestsellermo.  If more Sockmonkeys like any of these, we can definitely use one or more for future writing months/challenges.

Hello Sockmonkeys!

Sorry for being so quiet. It's hard to believe we're already near the end of October, isn't it?

Anyhow, I have been hearing things in various places and was also asked about this a few times, but rather than just make a unilateral decision, I wanted to get input from as many of you as possible. 

Since we, as a region, are no longer associated with HQ and the November moniker is one that, technically, only they are allowed to use, we may want to come up with our own. While we can pick something to use just for November, it might help if we pick something that can be customized and used for other months and other challenges, but we can be November specific.

In that light, I have come up with a Google form poll, which I will link in this post. There are a few options on it and there is space to add your own suggestion, if you'd like, although I'm not sure anyone else will see it to vote on it. I'm doing it this way since a Google form is more accessible to more Sockmonkeys, because not everyone is in our Discord or our Facebook group, so I hope you'll click through and reply to it.

I'll leave the poll open until Sunday, October 27th, 2024 and then announce the results soon after.
